All-in-all a decent little psychological horror film from Norway. It's also mixed with serial killer/slasher themes and is all a big mystery to boot. In the end all the build-up and guessing is really still left up in the air pretty much. A lot of the ending is left up to your interpretation, and I won't get into mine here as to not spoil it if you haven't seen the film. A lot of times these open-ended horror flick leave me feeling like I've been cheated, but this one actually works... mostly. I would have enjoyed knowing a bit more about a few of the characters or things from the past. I like having a few questions at the end, but not questions about major plot points and things that would really be helpful to knowing just what the hell is going on. Again I realize it's supposed to be open-ended, it's just too much so for me.
The setting of the old home in pretty creepy and thanks to this and the excellent score it keeps a good, eerie atmosphere. Also there are plenty of great shots of the Norwegian landscape. It's pretty suspenseful at times and I actually fell for a few of the jump scares which I usually see coming. It seemed a bit slow at times but overall the pacing actually works for it without getting boring, it just gives the tension a bit of time to gel and get under your skin while your imagination gets used.
So overall it's well shot, well acted, creepy and has enough twists and turns to hold interest... but left me with too many major questions to score any higher.
