Shoot It Out With 10 Years

The new 10 Years' CD called "Feeding The Wolves" came out today and here's the first video from it for the song "Shoot It Out".

A Super Tuesday

A boatload of good releases today on the ole new release list. Well, for my tastes anyway... yours may vary. Many of these I've recently posted new videos by or tracks or whatever... so I've conveniently linked those here. See how I am? Always helpful. And a couple of these bands, namely Murderdolls and American Bang, I currently hold tickets to see very soon. It all just comes together so nicely on new release day. I stuck a few news bits at the end on other favorites, so check those out too. Or don't.

* Sons of Anarchy Season 2 DVD

* Disturbed ~ "Asylum" CD (see blog here... the deluxe edition comes with a 70 minute documentary Decade of Disturbed)

* Murderdolls ~ "Women and Children Last" CD (see blog here)

* 10 Years ~ "Feeding the Wolves" CD

* American Bang ~ "American Bang" CD (see blog here)

* American Sixgun ~ "Gypsy Circus & The Southern Wind Vol I & II" CD

* Stereoside ~ "Stereoside" CD

* Atom Smash ~ "Love is in the Missile" CD (see blog here)

* Goo Goo Dolls ~ "Something for the Rest of Us" CD

* Papa Roach ~ "Time for Annihilation…" CD (see blog here)

* Heart ~ "Red Velvet Car" CD (their first album since 2004) CD

* House Season 6 DVD

* UFC 115: Liddell v. Franklin DVD (Chuck's final fight? Let's hope so)

* I read where Ozzy Osbourne’s camp is already re-releasing his "Scream" CD on October 5th. The new edition has three new studio tracks, “One More Time”, “Jump the Moon” and “Hand of the Enemy”, and four live tracks, “Bark at the Moon”, “Let Me Hear You Scream”, “No More Tears” and the Black Sabbath classic “Fairies Wear Boots”. I haven't heard whether the live tracks have Gus G on guitar but I would assume so. Doesn't seem right for him to play "No More Tears" but the dude can shred so I want to hear it. And usually the labels wait a year or so before the double-dip, but not this time. If it pisses you off, don't buy it I guess.

* And there's a "new" or actually just previously unreleased Pantera track called "The Will to Survive" streaming on their Facebook page. It's from the pcoming 20th Anniversary edition of one of the great albums of all-time, "Cowboys From Hell," which is due out on September 14th.

* Speaking of Pantera, David Ellefson (Megadeth) and Tim "Ripper" Owens (Iced Earth, Beyond Fear, Judas Priest) recorded a song called "Leave It Alone" several years ago for a Dimebag Darrell memorial disc that has yet to be released. The song is available exclusively on iTunes now.

* Lastly, I just read where Sammy Hagar told Billboard.com that Chickenfoot has completed four songs and is "seven pieces of new music" into its second album. The band is now waiting for drummer Chad Smith to get a break his regular gig with the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Cool.

2 Of The Coolest Cats On This Planet

On August 28 a group of celebs and singers came to Little Rock for a Voices For Justice, a rally in support of the West Memphis 3. If you don't know... Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin and Jessie Misskelley are charged with murder based solely upon an error-filled and police-coerced false confession. So go to their website and read and do what you do... www.freewestmemphis3.org

So I didn't make it to the show as I was out of town, but among the performances was this one by Eddie Vedder and Johnny Depp that I wish I'd have been there for. If they ever do a Pearl Jam biopic, I hope Depp plays Eddie. This is awesome and surely worth the price of admission for it alone. The song is "Society" from the Into The Wild soundtrack.

I ask you, is Johnny Depp the coolest man on the planet?

That's rhetorical by the way.

Much thanks to user albawild for posting this classic.

Case 39 Trailer

I've seen this film classified as horror but really it looks like it will fall into the thriller category better... but what's the difference really? Let's call it a horror/thriller and be done with it.

It stars Bradley Cooper, who you know from The Hangover but us horror folks know better from the excellent movie The Midnight Meat Train. It also stars Renée Zellweger, who you know from lots of bad chick flicks but us horror folks know from the stinker The Return of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre... unfortunately. So yeah, odd cast for this type of film maybe but this trailer looks pretty decent. I'll warn you though, this is one of those trailers that seems to give away too much. I wish I could unwatch it myself, but I like to go into movies knowing as little as possible so maybe it won't bother you as much. It's out on Oct. 1st and here's some info:

Official Site

Synopsis: A social worker (Zellweger) fights to save a girl from her abusive parents, only to discover that the situation is more dangerous than she ever expected.

UFC 118 Wrap-Up

If you were like me and missed UFC 118 then Fox Sports has some nice YouTube vids to sort of recap it and wrap it up. I wasn't too impressed with the card beforehand but it looks like it ended up with some pretty solid fights. I wish I'd have gotten the PPV like I usually do but I was having a pretty good time on a road trip anyway so whatever. Check out some of these videos for a taste of what we missed as Frankie Edgar held on to the belt by dominating BJ Penn, Randy Couture destroyed James Toney and Nate Diaz and Marcus Davis put on the fight of the night.

Movie Review: The Last Exorcism

Synopsis: A charismatic but troubled evangelical minister agrees to let his last exorcism be filmed by a documentary crew, but he's not prepared for what seems to be going on at this old country farmhouse and his beliefs are shaken to the core.

Another of the shaky, hand-held type mockumentaries like The Blair Witch Project, Cloverfield or Quarantine, but what sets this one apart is the storytelling. I was actually pretty wrapped up on what direction it was going to take and by the end was a bit shocked to see where it actually ended up thanks to some pretty clever misdirection. I think it's the kind of story that after the credits role you can still be discussing and come up with completely separate opinions of what just went down.

It may start a bit slow but actually it's just building tension, something it does pretty well, and it actually is very interesting even in the slow parts as it I tried to decide just which direction it was going with respects to religion and faith. There are plenty of decent scares, but it's never just too in-your-face.

The cast was very competent and believable I thought, especially Ashley Bell as the young girl Nell, who is just fantastic. Movies like this never get the players any awards, but I assure you her performance is worthy.

All-in-all I was really pleased with this creepy, suspenseful, intelligently written and above all very entertaining low-budget chiller.

New Linkin Park

Here's the new video for "The Catalyst"" which is the first single from Linkin Park's new album "A Thousand Suns." The CD is due September 14th wherever you buy or steal your favorite music from. Did I ever tell you about the time I was in a Linkin Park video?

Halloween Hootenanny 2010

I start thinking about the whole Halloween month pretty early since I'm such a big fan of horror, and this year it's been made really easy for me with announcements galore for the month of October on DVD and in the theaters. Check out this current list of horror movies coming to theaters in October now:

Oct 1st: Let Me In, Hatchet II, Case 39
Oct 8th: My Soul To Take (3D)
Oct 22nd: Paranormal Activity 2
Oct 29th: Saw 3D, Monsters

There's also a bloody bevy of horror films releasing on DVD for the month, including the remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street, a sweet and packed The Exorcist Blu-ray, Splice and Predators. So it's a great month already. And now, for me, there's this right here in Little Rock:

Yep, 3 horror-themed bands that I dig all in 1 night and I've got tickets in the 2nd row off the floor. The floor is general admission and I'm too old to stand for that long and still enjoy myself nor do I mosh... so seats are good. I've seen Rob Zombie 3 times and he's always great but this will be my first time for Alice Cooper and the Murderdolls both. Joey Jordison he will be performing guitar duties for the Murderdolls and will be drumming for Rob Zombie, so that's cool. Furthermore, one of my favorite guitarists in the world, John 5, is playing with Rob Zombie on this tour. He's been the guitarist for Marilyn Manson and was on the excellent "Holy Wood (In the Shadow of the Valley of Death)" CD. And if that's not enough, 2 other guys who I'm a fan of, Keri Kelli and Damon Johnson, are playing with Alice Cooper's band on this tour as far as I know. This is going to be a helluva fun show. And a great month.

Summer of Rage?

I love Shooter Jennings, but I'm just not sure just how I feel about his latest concept CD, Black Ribbons, which came out back in March. I gave it plenty of time and a few of the songs grew on me but overall I just never got into it. It's odd to say the least as it's got a very psychedelic rock feel to it.

Now don't get me wrong, I love when an artist branches out from their normal sound and does something you might not expect usually. I guess this was just not what I expected from Shooter, who I've dug since his first CD and seen several times live and he always brings it. Maybe I'll get the whole CD back out and give it a fews spins since I ran across this video that I hadn't seen.
So see for youself I guess as here's Shooter Jennings & Hierophant's video for Summer of Rage:

Movie Review: Lake Placid 3

Synopsis: Despite claims that they're gone, killer crocodiles and their offspring terrorize residents of a small community yet again.

My mama taught me that if I don't have anything nice to say then don't say anything at all. Fortunately for you, once the Internet was invented by Al Gore I totally threw away that bit of advice so I will say that overall this movie is an absolute steaming pile of croc dung.

The good? 1 thing. Or 1 person actually, Kacey Barnfield. I had no idea who she was so I looked her up then proceeded to Google for every single photo I could find of her. It helped pass time while watching this movie. Go ahead and go to her website and I'll wait here for you. Really. Go!

OK, you're back. Well once you get past her this movie has nothing but terrible (and I do mean terrible) special effects (mostly just bad CGI), horrible acting, stupid dialogue (one lady yells "they can smell you through the glass!") and just an overall ridiculous script. Nobody behaves like any normal person would and really a good part of the goings-on just don't make any sense. I realize they're all only in the film to supply croc food but I'd like at least 1 iota of depth to their characters. No such luck. And I say croc food but for some reason they seem to prefer dragging people around by their foot or something over eating them and often just leave the bodies laying around for others to find after they bloody them up a bit. I guess they're not hungry, but just killing for the hell of it. I'll give them this though, they're very sneaky. They may be part Indian crocs because 2 people might just be standing in the woods talking and suddenly a 2 ton, 25 foot croc is gulping 1 down. Possibly some sort of invisible power?

What else? Well, the crocs sizes doesn't stay consistent at all. Sometimes one is big enough to drag a car into the lake (seriously) and the next minute it's inside a house getting through tiny hallways. Yes, there are more than 1 but from one shot to the next they may change size. Also the CGI effects when they're in the water are just pitiful. But the very worst thing that bothers me about this movie is that in most of the action scenes they sort of shake the camera and try to make it feel all "hand-held" and up close and it doesn't work for me, it just comes off as really annoying. Possibly because all the shakey motion covers for some bad special effects. Beats me. But it sucks.

This would be a 1 out of 10 but for Kacey's bikini scenes.

The Walking Dead Arrive on Halloween!

So I've been really geeked about this series for quite a while since I heard they were making a TV show for The Walking Dead comic. I've seen a lot of stills and artwork and such but here's the first trailer I've found and it looks solid I think. Frank Darabont (The Mist, The Green Mile) is the director.

The Walking Dead, which is based off of Robert Kirkman's monthly black and white comic of the same name, will officially air on AMC Sunday, October 31st 10PM ET & PT/9 PM C. Yes, on Halloween. The first episode will be 90 minutes. There will be 6 episodes total in the season.

Bad City Has A Wildside

I mentioned earlier that Bad City had a new CD out and I could almost hear the collective head-scratching, so here's their latest video for "Wildlife" off of the new CD called Welcome To The Wasteland (which once again... came out today. See how this works?). These guys are great so I strongly suggest you check them out if ya don't know.

Another Tuesday

Wow, when I ran this morning it was almost cool. Dare I say that? Yes, I dare. I love it when Fall begins to creep in and football season lingers. Even the little hints make me sort of ready, but I still hope it stays hot during the day long enough for a few more lake trips. No doubt I've gotten full use of the boat this year as I've probably spent at least 20 days just floating on the lake over the Summer. A few more is all I ask. It will be nice to go to the Traveler's game with Tulsa tonight and not be drenched in sweat the entire time. Plus my beer can stay cold for more than half an inning, always a plus.

Anywho... lots of cool new releases today, so check out my picks to click:

* Apocalyptica ~ "7th Symphony" CD

* The Showdown ~ "Blood in the Gears" CD

* Bad City ~ "Welcome to the Wasteland" CD

* Blind Guardian ~ "At the Edge of Time" CD

* The Sword ~ "The "Warp Riders" CD

* Lost Season 6 DVD (the final season!)

* Survival Of The Dead DVD (more of George Romero's zombie opus)

* The Simpsons Season 13 DVD (still one of the best shows going)

* Mafia II video game (PS3)

TV Ad For The Final Frontier

Here's a TV ad for The Final Frontier, Iron Maiden's 15th studio album, that I just thought was sort of cool so I'm sharing. I'm a sharing kind of guy. Surely you already have the CD by now anyway right? If you don't buy this CD, the terrorists win. You don't want that on your conscious do you? Didn't think so.

New Ozzy Vid

Here's the new Ozzy Osbourne video for the song "Life Won't Wait" from his CD Scream. This is the 2nd single. His son Jack directed the video.

The Gracious Few

There are several reasons why I'm really digging this new band, The Gracious Few. First and foremost is that I love the songs I've heard. Next is that it's made up of members of 2 bands I've liked for a long time as Chad Taylor, bassist Patrick Dahlheimer and drummer Chad Gracey are from the band Live and lead vocalist Kevin Martin and guitarist Sean Hennesy are from the band Candlebox. Also, they're in town with American Bang later this year and I'll be there for sure.

The first single is "Honest Man" and it rocks so of course I posted the video below.

Official Site

Their debut album, titled The Gracious Few, is scheduled for release on September 14, 2010... so I'll have it in hand by the time I see them at least.
