Finally, Chickenfoot’s new single "Big Foot" is online and I've got it streaming below. Their 2nd studio album, oddly titled "Chickenfoot III", is due September 27th.

Big Foot by Chickenfoot

Slaughtershouse Sunday

What would a Sunday be without loud metalcore music, violence and some curse words? Well it wouldn't a Sunday with the new Bury Your Dead video for their song "Slaughterhouse Five". Watch it below, break a bottle over somebody's head, then go ask for forgiveness.

The new Bury Your Dead CD is called "Mosh & Roll" and is due Aug 2nd.

Top of the Weekend

I'm heading down to Jackson, MS today for the big 2nd annual Top of the Hops beer festival and I'm quite stoked about it. They have a lot of good breweries on hand and I'm holdin' a VIP ticket to get in the event an hour early and it also gives me access to a few special beers plus some extra food. And you know I need extra food and special beers.

Atlanta Brewing Company, Abita, Bayou Teche, Lazy Magnolia, Diamond Bear, Mendocino, Tommyknocker, Tallgrass, Shipyard, Stephens Point, Widmer, Yazoo.... all of these and more will be on hand to make my day a fuzzy one. And if that's not enough, check out the giveaway. One lucky winner (moi!) will be taking this table full home:

Um... yeah. I need that big pile of beer to complete me. It's even called the "Mound of Love". If I win I'm going to surround myself with them in my hotel bed when I sleep.

I'll try to take a few pics and so forth as I attempt to taste every brew in the building. There are also beer seminars, food pairings and live music.

And yes, I have the phone number of a taxi company in Jackson already.

Travis Barker Goes Off

Travis Barker is still one of my favorite drummers in the world right now (possibly next to Morgan Rose from Sevendust). Check out Travis' new video performing "Let's Go" featuring Yelawolf, Twista, Busta Rhymes & Lil Jon.

If I were cool and hip I'd say something like "it's off da hook!" or some such thing. But I'm neither cool nor hip... so I'll just say I find this particular music video satisfactory to my liking.

Murfreesboro's Finest

Former Nashville Star winner Chris Young was on Jimmy Kimmel Live last night and played "You" and "Lost"... both off his third studio album, Neon, which was released on July 12, 2011. Pay attention, this kid has had 4 #1 songs in a row on the country charts.

Sports Win Compilation

Another great video from EpicWinPlanet. You've seen plenty of these probably, but they're still great. Granted, a lot of these are just hot dogging showoffs... but hell it's still entertaining. Amiright? Personal favorites of mine are the ping-pong one, the dude making the goalie look like a total idiot and of course the dodgeball one where the guy gets his head blown off. Um, yeah, so you're out.

Movie Review: Fertile Ground

Synopsis: Emily and Nate Weaver leave the city for the rural comfort of Nate's ancestral home in the country. Once there, Emily is plagued by horrifying visions and haunted by the ghosts inhabiting their isolated new home.

The story isn't too bad but you've seen all of this before so I was hoping they'd do something to make it stand out a bit. No such luck. It's often boring with only a few jump scares, thanks mainly to very loud "music", and borrows from every other haunted house film you've seen probably.

The lead actress pretty much needs to carry the movie with all her screen time and I just found her really unpleasant. Right off the bat you do get a nice topless, close-up of her and she does have quite the bod, but her voice annoyed me and the fact that the entire movie she was mopey and whiny about everything had me hating her. I like my female leads to have some moxy and stand up for themselves. Her character was just pitiful and depressing. She's also supposed to be a clothing designer and she dressed sloppy and often like she was partially retarded, and I really wanted her to wash her hair for the entire film.

Then the logic (or lack thereof) for the whole thing. They move to an old house that's in the family and proceed to discover there were at least 5 murders there, including family members. Didn't know about that? And after finding a skull buried in the yard and hearing of all the murder, death and evil there... 99% of the people on the planet would move. Especially after 1 strange incident. Hell I wouldn't even pack probably. Of course, another murder occurs while they're there but it's written off as accidental. Yes, accidentally getting thrown (not falling) from an upstairs window. No police seem concerned about it either.

Anyway, pretty much 1 big cliche... a few scares that you see coming a mile away if you watch haunted house movies, not much violence (1 big stabby scene), an overly long sex scene and a boobie scene in the first 10 seconds. That's about it. It does have a satifactory ending though and the production values are good. Not a total waste of time but don't get your hopes up for too much.

The trailer for the 6th season of Showtime's awesome Dexter is out and what could be cooler? How about Marilyn Manson's cover of Depeche Mode's "Personal Jesus" as the soundtrack? Yeah, that. Reach out and touch faith indeed. Season 6 debuts in October.

Gina Carano Goes Haywire on Channing Tatum's Tush

It looks like a Haywire trailer finally popped up online over the weekend. Why do you care? Well maybe you don't, but I do because that's the movie featuring Gina Carano, former Strikeforce ladies champ who also appeared as the Gladiator "Crush" on American Gladiators. She hasn't fought in the cage since dropping the belt to Cristiane Santos way back on August 15, 2009.

I really didn't have high hopes when I first heard of her signing on for this project but then I heard that Haywire is directed by Steven Soderbergh and stars big names like Ewan McGregor, Channing Tatum, Bill Paxton, Michael Douglas and Antonio Banderas, so I'd think it should be pretty high quality. The trailer looks like she's going to kick all sort of ass in it, as she does to Channing Tatum here. Sweet.

Synopsis: A black ops super soldier (Carano) seeks payback after she is betrayed and set up during a mission by her own agency.

Welcome To Where Time Stands Still

More live Metallica from the tour, this time doing "Welcome Home (Sanitarium) " live in Halifax, Canada on July 14th.

This song, from the album Master of Puppets, is one of my top 5 Metallica favorites. James Hetfield himself said he actually wrote this as tribute to the film One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, a classic film. It was Metallica's last single to feature bassist Cliff Burton before his death in 1986.

Movie Review: Captain America: The First Avenger

Synopsis: After being deemed unfit for military service, Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) volunteers for a top secret research project that turns him into Captain America, a superhero dedicated to defending America's ideals.

Yet another origin story of an old comic book hero that I started reading over 30 years ago, I was impressed with the way they handled the whole underdog/little guy aspect and made it very interesting. What else I really liked about it was the whole retro feel it had to the movie. There was a lot of War War II nostalgia and it really felt like a period piece. I thought it all had a very "Raiders of the Lost Ark" feel to it, and that's a good thing.

Chris Evans ended up being the perfect choice for Captain America. In the early origin scenes where he plays a 90 lb weakling, the special effects are so fantastic you'd think he's really a scrawny little dweeb. Once he gets injected with the Barry Bonds' juice though he become a pumped-up, patriotic ass-kicker of the highest degree. Yet still he's sort of got a nice, sensitive side even with the rugged exterior.

For the fans of these comic book movies I think there is plenty of action and enough comic references to keep them pleased. It's got Bucky Barnes, Tony Stark's father plays a central role and the Red Skull is your evil villain of the day, and of course you get your Nick Fury bit at the end. Tommy Lee Jones is great as Colonel Phillips. Stan Lee gets his usual cameo.

The movie has nice continuity and a quick pace. They work a lot of story and action in a short time and it keeps the film moving. Cap's love interest, Peggy Carter, and he have nice chemistry together and it never takes over and turns him into a pathetic puppy-dog-eyed whinebag like say Spiderman. He's not distracted and still ready to punch people bad-mouthing the U.S. of A. in the face instead of pining away like a high-school kid.

A very tight, entertaining comic book movie that leaves me wanting The Avengers to hurry up and open, or to just see a "man out of time" sort of sequel to this movie.

Eric Church Is My Homeboy

Eric Church's new CD, Chief, drops this Tuesday, July 26th so you might as well check out his latest music video for his track "Homeboy" because something tells me you'll be hearing a lot from this guy. His last 4 singles have gone top 20 on the country charts and this one is just all kinds of catchy.

The Call of Metallica

How about Metallica blasting "The Call Of Ktulu" from Amneville, France on July 11, 2011? Oui, I believe I will sir. Merci.

From the CD Ride The Lightning, the idea of the song is based upon H. P. Lovecraft's book The Shadow Over Innsmouth which was first introduced to the rest of the band by Cliff Burton. The song's name was taken from one of H.P. Lovecraft's main stories featuring Cthulhu, The Call of Cthulhu, which was written in 1928 for the magazine Weird Tales. It's also the last song to include songwriting credit for Dave Mustaine.

Girls Summer Fail Compilation

What could be better for this hot Summer day than a bunch of girls in bikinis? How about a bunch of girls in bikinis falling on their faces (and other parts). Failblog put together this hilarious video of some lovely (and a few not so lovely) girls in binkins failing. Several of these are just "what the hell were they thinking?" type decisions. Enjoy.

Movie Review: Rango

Synopsis: Rango is an ordinary chameleon who accidentally winds up in the town of Dirt, a lawless outpost in the Wild West in desperate need of a new sheriff... and water.

It was pretty easy to see from the trailer that this was going to be pretty strange, and having Johnny Depp as the main voice was only going to add to the strangeness I figured. But wow, is this really odd. It's also very smart, creative, fun, action packed and absolutely beautifully animated. Seriously, this animation has more attention to detail than I've ever seen. Not just the characters but the scenery. It's just gorgeous.

But it almost seems aimed at adults more than children. Adults who have done or do drugs even probably will like it best. It's just a mismash of genre and styles... part old spaghetti western like Django, part Chinatown and part Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. There are also nods to everything from Apocalypse Now to A Fistful of Dollars to current pop culture throughout.

My favorite part is an owl Mariachi band that narrates who actually had me laughing outloud a few times. But Rango himself is brilliant, especially if you love Don Knotts type characters, and Depp's voice work is exactly what you'd expect... fantastic. I bet he had a blast recording this.

My only problem with this film maybe... a PG rating. In addition to it being quite trippy, some of the subject material is a bit violent and even foul mouthed. Most of the jokes, like I said earlier, probably fly way over kids' heads anyway. They could have just added a few bits to this and made it an R-rating I'd think and it probably should be PG-13 as it is. Not sure how or why they even went for PG.

Overall though it's got a good heart and is a lot of fun I think. This might even grow to be a classic some day, it's just that quirky.

New Video From Redlight King

Here's a new video for the song "City Life" from Redlight King, the project featuring Mark Kasprzyk... better known by his stage name, Kazzer.

Archie Meets KISS?

Growing up I absolutely loved the KISS comic, then later even bought all the KISS Psycho Circus comics and more recently I purchased the big KISS Kompendium which has every comic KISS did. But now... wow. Check out this story below. (and yes, I'll go buy this. DON'T JUDGE ME!)

Source: Newsarama

The Archie characters have survived a lot in their more than 70 years of publication, but things in Riverdale are sure to get interesting in November.

KISS is coming to town.

"It's the biggest band in rock history crossing paths with Archie, Betty, Veronica, Jughead and Sabrina," said Alex Segura, who's writing the four-issue story with art by Dan Parent. "Two major pieces of Americana joining forces for the first time."

It may seem like an odd pairing, to put the milkshake-sipping teens from Archie with a hard-rocking band like KISS. But the story, which begins in Archie #627, sees Riverdale invaded by monsters from another dimension. Their presence makes the town ripe for a visit by the KISS personas: Demon, Starchild, Spaceman and Catman.

"The Riverdale gang are looking to cast a protection spell to protect the town before Halloween," Segura said. "Of course, that means Sabrina is coordinating things. But when the spell goes awry and a cabal of dangerous monsters appear, who's going to stop them? Enter KISS. Can the Archies team up with the rock legends in time to save the town from the legion of monsters? Stay tuned. Oh, and zombies. There'll be zombies."

The story will also introduce a gang of four monsters that Segura said will "simultaneously frighten and amuse, and fans of pop culture stuffs will get a kick of them."

See full article here at Newsarama

So... zombies, KISS and the Archie gang? All in Riverdale? Oh it's on. So on.

Movie Review: The Rite

Synopsis: Inspired by true events, the film follows seminary student Michael Kovak (Colin O'Donoghue), who is sent to study exorcism at the Vatican in spite of his own doubts about the controversial practice and even his own faith. Wearing his deep skepticism like armor, Michael challenges his superiors to look to psychiatry, rather than demons, in treating the possessed. Only when he's sent to apprentice with the unorthodox Father Lucas (Anthony Hopkins)--a legendary priest who has performed thousands of exorcisms--does Michael's armor begin to fall. As he is drawn into a troubling case that seems to transcend even Father Lucas's skill, he begins to glimpse a phenomenon science can't explain or control...and an evil so violent and terrifying that it forces him to question everything he believes.

Ah, the dreaded "inspired by true events" tagline. Which, of course, means it's total fiction. But anyway, here we have yet another exorcism movie and as I've said before the first great exorcism movie, The Exorcist, set the bar so high I'm not sure why they even keep making these. And this one follows the same story really I've seen plenty of times, most recently in The Last Exorcism and The Exorcism of Emily Rose. We have a doubter, we have a old priest and we have some wacky goings on from that mean old devil.

Something needs to set one of these apart from the others and at least this film does have that in the form of Anthony Hopkins. I think he's fantastic in this movie and saves it from being "just another exorcism movie". Oh it's still not great by any means, but it's good and very engaging at least with a fantastic performance by Perkins. There are only a few good chills, not enough, and the pace does get sort of slow at times but it's pretty watchable.

I thought it was going to go for sort of a question of faith type stance, which might have been cool, but it really ended up being a Hollywood demon possession flick, which sort of stretches the credibility of the whole "based on a true story" bit. I've seen the so-called "real possesion" videos on YouTube and I'll be damned if any actually have supernatural occurences going on. Demons must be scared of cameras in real life.

Anyway, a bit slow and cliche ridden but watch it for Anthony Perkins and a few chills.

Petrino At SEC Media Days

Why are folks so pumped around here for Razorback football? Well, for one, we don't have a lot of teams in this state to cheeer for like some other states. But last year's solid 10-3 team got people even more fired up and this year the Hogs return a high-powered offense that features returning receivers Jarius Wright (42 rec - 788 yards), Greg Childs (46 rec - 659 yards) and Joe Adams (50 rec - 813 yards), and arguably one of the league's most complete running backs in Knile Davis (98.6 yards per game). This badass foursome manufactured 3,582 yards of offense and 30 touchdowns in 2010. Should be fun.

I Saw A Couple Of Baseball Rarities

I love baseball. As many games as I've attended in my lifetime though it seems like I should be able to say I've seen pretty much everything I guess. But last night at Dickey-Stephens Park in North Little Rock I sat in my season box seat and witnessed a first for me, and the park, and it occured in a game where a no-hitter also occured... only the 2nd time I've ever seen one of those tossed at the professional level. What a night.

NWA Naturals' lefty Will Smith's (not the Fresh Prince for the record) perfect game came to an end in the bottom of the sixth inning when he walked Clay Fuller. Then he walked Orlando Mercado to put runners on first and second with no outs. Catcher Alberto Rosario attempted to lay down a sacrifice bunt twice and then grounded into the first triple play in Dickey-Stephens Park's five-year history. Rosario grounded it to third, who stepped on the base to start the 5-4-3 triple play allowing Smith to still face the minimum.

Smith didn't come out for the 8th though due to a high pitch count. Kelvin Herrera relieved him and faced the minimum in his 2 innings to finish the no-hitter. 27 batters faced, 27 retired.

And talk about a tough luck loss. Matt Shoemaker (8-2, 2.28) pitched a complete game. He gave up five hits and an unearned run, striking out eight without a walk while throwing 106 pitches. In his last three outings, Shoemaker is 2-1 with a 0.36 ERA, giving up 11 hits and four walks in 25 innings. He has struck out 16 batters in that span. Shoemaker has already been Texas League Pitcher Of The Week twice this year and was a mid-season all-star.

Dickey-Stephens Park Milestone Moments:

* April 29th, 2010 - Ryan Braser pitched the 1st no-hitter (against Tulsa)
* July 19th, 2011 - Will Smith and Kelvin Herrera pitch the 2nd no-hitter (against the Travs)
* July 19th, 2011 - NWA turns the 1st triple-play in the 6th inning

And I was at all 3 moments. Sweet.
