Movie Review: Transformers 3

Transformers: Dark of The Moon

Synopsis: The Autobots learn of a Cybertronian spacecraft hidden on the Moon, and race against the Decepticons to reach it and to learn its secrets.

I think this is the type of the movie you sort of know in advance if you're going to like it or not. You can rest assured it's going to be loud, full of action and thin on plot. With a 2 1/2 hour run time you get plenty of the above too, so you've been warned. Me personally I thought it was a lot of fun.

The best thing? The awesome 3D and special effects. I'm not normally a big fan of the gimmick of 3D but with all the great special effects in this one it's pretty mind-blowing. Rosie Huntington-Whiteley looks pretty fine in 3D too I must say. She may not be a great actress, but who really cares?

Again, it runs really long but damned if watching the city of Chicago get destroyed wasn't pretty fun in the big climax scenes. I only wish they'd have taken out Wrigley Field at some point so we wouldn't have to be subjected to more Cubs' games.

The movie does sort of a fun job of mixing history with the story of the Transformers, with not only the Apollo 13 landing on the moon intertwined but JFK, Obama and Nixon making appearances.

It's darker in tone to the first 2 films in the series, with a lot of deaths... both human and robots. Point blank executions and humans being blasted to dust are regular occurrences. There's a bit of bad language too and it seems like we've drifted pretty far away from kid's toys.

I'm rating this 8/10 because by gosh this is how I like my Summer movies. Don't go in expecting an Oscar winner and have the right amount of expectations, you will probably be fulfilled. It's definitely an improvement over Revenge of the Fallen. By the end of the long run time, I thought the great special effects and extremely extravagant action scenes more than make up its flaws like the cheesy dialogue and cliched script. If you like this franchise then I definitely recommend this film.
