Steven Spielberg/Stephen King Under the Dome Collaboration Heading to Showtime

Steven Spielberg/Stephen King Under the Dome Collaboration Heading to Showtime:

We've known for a while that Steven Spielberg and Stephen King were joining forces to develop a TV series based on King's supernatural thriller Under the Dome, and now that the project has found a home at Showtime, things should be heating up shortly.

Deadline reports that, in one of Showtime’s "most ambitious" undertakings, the pay cable network is partnering with Spielberg and King for "Under the Dome", a drama series based on King’s 2009 novel, which will be produced by DreamWorks Television. The supernatural thriller revolves around locals at a Maine vacation spot who battle one another when a force field suddenly surrounds their town and cuts them off from the rest of the world.

DreamWorks’ Spielberg and Stacey Snider nabbed the rights to King’s novel shortly after it was published in November 2009 to strong reviews, and although it was previously reported that "The River" scribe Michael Green was working on a script, a new search is under way for a writer for the project, whose executive producers will include King and DreamWorks TV’s Justin Falvey and Darryl Frank. Spielberg has a longstanding relationship with King, previously teaming with the bestselling author to adapt his 1984 novel The Talisman, which was originally developed as a feature and then as a miniseries that was once set up at TNT.

Book Synopsis:

Just down Route 119 in Chester’s Mill, Maine, all hell is about to break loose...

On an entirely normal, beautiful fall day, a small town is suddenly and inexplicably sealed off from the rest of the world by an invisible force field. Planes crash into it and rain down flaming wreckage. A gardener’s hand is severed as the dome descends. Cars explode on impact. Families are separated, and panic mounts. No one can fathom what the barrier is, where it came from, and when — or if — it will go away. Now a few intrepid citizens, led by an Iraq vet turned short-order cook, face down a ruthless politician dead set on seizing the reins of power under the dome. But their main adversary is the dome itself. Because time isn’t just running short. It’s running out.

Movie Review: The Ward

Synopsis: A thriller centered on an institutionalized young woman (Amber Heard) who becomes terrorized by a ghost.

A pretty straight-forward, fast-moving slasher film that's got a little tension, some good jump scares and an excellent eerie location... but really lacks enough suspense or shocks to have me praising it as one of director John Carpenter's greats or anything. It's good though, just not great by any means.

One thing it does having going for it is a hot cast of women, with not only the lovely Amber Heard (Zombieland) but also smokin' hot Danielle Panabaker (The Crazies) and Lyndsy Fonseca. They and some others are trapped in a mental hospital and starting to get knocked off. There's the cliches like "I shouldn't be here!" and the old mean nurse hittin' 'em with needles and drugs. That's about it really, except there are a few flashbacks and of course a big twist. It's essentially a combination of a few movies (stop reading now or you might get a spoiler)... part Shutter Island and part Identity.

Nothing new, super-scary or very original, but it's still a fun, watchable slasher flick.

Movie Review: Grave Encounters

Synopsis: The crew of "Grave Encounters", a ghost-hunting reality television show, are shooting an episode inside the abandoned Collingwood Psychiatric Hospital, where unexplained phenomena has been reported for years. All in the name of good television, they voluntarily lock themselves inside the building for the night and begin a paranormal investigation, capturing everything on camera. They quickly realize that the building is more than just haunted - it is alive - and it has no intention of ever letting them leave. Ultimately they discover the truth behind the hospital's dark past... and tape what turns out to be their final episode.

This starts out like an episode of the TV shows Ghost Hunters mixed with Paranormal State, then takes a turn towards the movies Paranormal Activity meets House on Haunted Hill with a dash of Session 9. So yeah, it's mostly been done before for sure... old psychiatric hospital, locked in for the night, hunting ghosts... etc. But there's a bit of originality here still in the delivery and it provides are some good jump scares in the later half after a slow set-up.

One thing I think that sort of turned me off a bit though was instead of keeping thing a bit less revealing and creepy (or one might even say a bit more believable) it becomes a lot more over-the-top and sensational towards the end. It does lead to some good jumps and such but it also sort of makes it a whole different type of film really I thought. I guess it depends on whether you like the subtle and creepy stuff or prefer demons fully manifesting and chasing people down hallways. I like both, but I'd prefer to see one or the other in my movie.

The acting is OK, the direction is solid and the location and atmosphere are fantastic. Overall it's very entertaining.

SEC power rankings From ESPN

SEC power rankings: We have spent months analyzing players, schemes and coaches, but we are finally here.

In just a couple of days, the 2011 college football season will begin (thank you Mississippi State and Kentucky).

To kick off game week, we at the SEC blog have constructed our own power rankings to lead you into the season. This is an outlook on the season after taking into consideration a number of team items, including talent, experience and injuries.

Each week we'll bring you our thoughts on the state of the SEC's teams and things will no doubt change each week. Play well and your stock goes up. Drift under potential and you'll see yourself fall in our rankings.

Without further ado, here are our first batch of SEC power rankings for the 2011 season:

1. Alabama: The Tide enter the season as one of the most complete teams in the nation. Ten starters are back on defense and it’d be hard to find a better secondary and linebacker unit. It’s Trent Richardson’s time at running back and while Alabama’s quarterback options are young and inexperienced, they are both very talented and ready to lead.

2. LSU: This team could have seriously contended with Alabama for the No. 1 spot if not for the suspensions of senior quarterback Jordan Jefferson and wide receiver Russell Shepard for at least the opener. But the Tigers aren’t sunk. Veteran Jarrett Lee takes over at quarterback and he still has plenty of weapons on offense. Defensively, this group might be the most athletic around and has the ability to carry the Tigers this fall.

3. Arkansas: The season-ending injury to Knile Davis might have initially hindered the Razorbacks’ chances at a title run, but there is still a wealth of talent on offense. Tyler Wilson has four more than capable options at receiver and there is depth at running back. Defensively, this is the best group coach Bobby Petrino has had in Fayetteville.

4. South Carolina: Steve Spurrier claims to have the best team he’s ever had in Columbia and the Gamecocks are the most complete team in the East. With their main playmakers back on offense and the defense loaded with talent, the Gamecocks are primed to make it back-to-back trips to the SEC title game.

5. Georgia: Before attrition and injuries delivered some unwanted hits to the offense this offseason, the Bulldogs were being heralded as a team that could seriously compete for the conference title. There is still firepower on offense, starting with quarterback Aaron Murray, and the defense has a plethora of speed all around, but keeping that offensive line healthy is key.

6. Mississippi State: This set of Bulldogs has been a popular dark horse pick in the West. The offense is loaded and has depth for days at the skill positions. Three starting linebackers have to be replaced, but Mississippi’s State’s secondary is as athletic as any defensive backfield and should regularly frustrate opposing quarterbacks this fall.

7. Florida: The Gators usher in a new coaching staff, but still have a ton of questions on offense. As usual, the defense has loads of speed, especially in the front seven, but the loss of Janoris Jenkins raises concerns about the secondary. But for Florida to succeed, quarterback John Brantley will have to rediscover his confidence.

8. Tennessee: There is no doubt that the Volunteers will be able to score a handful of points this fall, but keeping opponents off the scoreboard could be an issue. Coach Derek Dooley considers this year one for him at Tennessee and he and his team are looking for a fresh start in 2011.

9. Auburn: The defending national champion must replace almost all of a team that went undefeated in 2010. Cam Newton is gone, leaving Mike Dyer and Onterio McCalebb to shoulder most of the offense load. There is talent on the Plains, but only six starters return, meaning there will be plenty of growing pains.

10. Ole Miss: The Rebels are looking for anything better than their 4-8 2010 campaign. Ole Miss is young across the board and is breaking in a quarterback in Barry Brunetti, who has nine career pass attempts. Outside of an experienced backfield and offensive line, the Rebels have questions at pretty much every position.

11. Kentucky: Playmakers that made the Wildcats’ offense go last season are gone, which will make new starting quarterback Morgan Newton’s that much more challenging. The defense struggled mightily last season, but new defensive coordinator Rick Minter has brought in his popular multiple schemes. This team needs to find offense playmakers and team toughness.

12. Vanderbilt: There is more excitement and confidence in Nashville, thanks to new coach James Franklin. The Commodores return more than 20 starters, but those starters went 2-10 last season. Franklin has proved he can recruit and fire up an almost lifeless fan base, but now it’s time to coach – and win.

Peyton Hillis Baked Your Mom Some Cookies

From EA Sports... former Arkansas Razorback and current Madden NFL 12 cover boy Peyton Hillis is serving up some smack talk. Use this video to get into your rival's head, at the Madden Smack Shack:

The Golfing Nun

A nun walks into Mother Superior's office and plunks down into a chair. She lets out a sigh heavy with frustration.

"What troubles you, Sister?" asked the Mother Superior. "I thought this was the day you spent with your family."

"It was," sighed the Sister. "And I went to play golf with my brother. We try to play golf as often as we can. You know I was quite a talented golfer before I devoted my life to Christ."

"I seem to recall that," the Mother Superior agreed. "So I take it your day of recreation was not relaxing?"

"Far from it," snorted the Sister. "In fact, I even took the Lord's name in vain today!"

"Goodness, Sister!" gasped the Mother Superior, astonished. "You must tell me all about it!"

"Well, we were on the fifth tee... and this hole is a monster, Mother - 540 yards, par 5 - with a nasty dogleg right and a hidden green... and I hit the drive of my life. I creamed it. The sweetest swing I ever made. And it was flying straight and true, right along the line I wanted... and it hit a bird in mid-flight."

"Oh my heavens!" commiserated the Mother. "How unfortunate! But surely that didn't make you blaspheme, Sister!"

"No, that wasn't it," admitted Sister. "While I was still trying to fathom what had happened, a squirrel ran out of the woods, grabbed my ball and ran off down the fairway!"

"Oh, that might have made even me blaspheme!" sympathized the Mother.

"But I didn't, Mother!" sobbed the Sister. "And I was so proud of myself! And while I was pondering whether this was a sign from God, a hawk swooped out of the sky, grabbed the squirrel and flew off, with my ball still clutched in his paws!"

"So that's when you cursed," said the Mother with a knowing smile.

"No, that wasn't it either," cried the Sister, anguished, "because as the hawk started to fly out of sight, the squirrel started struggling, and the hawk dropped him right there on the green, and the ball popped out of his paws and rolled to about 18 inches from the cup!"

Mother Superior sat back in her chair, folded her arms across her chest, fixed the Sister with a baleful stare and said...

"You missed the damn putt, didn't you?"

Breaking Benjamin Gets Blown Away

Breaking Benjamin has a new CD called Shallow Bay: The Best of Breaking Benjamin, which is (now get this) a "best of" package! No, really. And despite the name, the song "Shallow Bay" doesn't actually appear on the album.

Anyway, the album features every song they've released as a single, including the remixed version of "Blow Me Away" featuring Valora (lead singer Syd Duran kicks ass for the record). I picked up the 2-disc version which includes a second disc of b-sides, covers, acoustic performances, live recordings and other rarities. Well worth the price.

Here's the video for "Blow Me Away"...

Long Hot Summer

It's definitely been a long, hot Summer here in Arkansas. It's finally getting cooler and football is in the air though, and tonight we're heading up to Jonesboro to see Keith Urban for the 2nd time in the last month. Jake Owens opens again and I expect another great show (here's a bit on our last show in Nashville).

If you can't get out to see it, or just don't care to, I guess this latest video by Keith Urban performing "Long Hot Summer" will have to suffice.

Movie Review: Road Kill

Synopsis: Originally known as "Road Train" in Australia, it's a supernatural thriller about a group of teenagers menaced by a driver-less big rig while in the Australian outback.

So this sounds kind of cool right? Wrong. It does start out very nicely with a bit of an ode to the classic movie "Duel" and from the synopsis I thought it might be a bit like Stephen King's "Maximum Overdrive" meets "Joy Ride" but after the cool first 10 minutes or so.... it mostly goes straight to the crapper.

The coolest part of the movie is the big road train itself, and guess what? IT'S PARKED MOST OF THE MOVIE! It's got some pretty bad acting, annoying characters who behave stupidly and a silly plot which all help bring it to a slow crawl. There are just way too many "WTF" moments that don't make any sense and are never explained. And the main weapon used in the film is a gun. A gun. Is this a horror film or the nightly news? I hate that.

But, I must say this too. ***Spoilers ahead! Stop reading if you care.*** Although never explained, here's what it seems is going on and it's actually kind of cool... the truck possesses people and the trailers are a gateway to hell, hence a 3-headed dog hood ornament (Cerberus guards the gates of hell). The truck runs on blood and it possesses people and has them feed others to it for fuel. It searches people out and is an endless cycle. ***end spoilers***

So yeah, in the end, if I'm right about all that, it's sort of fun and a bit original. Doesn't make up for a lot of the pitfalls but I must say that does help and it's not as bad as if you don't figure that out. They do try to explain all that in the film, but it's never spelled out and I think is just a bit confusing. People who don't want to be spoon fed just might really like it though.

Sebastian Bach Press Kit

Here's an EPK for the upcoming Sebastian Bach album "Kicking And Screaming" out on Frontiers Records on September 27th, 2011. This is the follow-up to his ass-kicking CD Angel Down from back in 2007.

Sebastian Bach – Vocals

Bobby Jarzombek – drums, percussion and backing vocals

Nick Sterling – Guitars and Bass guitars and backing vocals

On This Day...

A quick peak at the ole "this day in history" list which I check daily told me it was some pretty cool people's birthdays.

For one, it's the birthday of Arkansan and 10X Major League Baseball All-Star George Kell (1922). One of my all-time favorites, he won a batting title in 1949, denying Ted Williams a triple crown. Kell was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame by the Veterans Committee in 1983. A memorable quote from his induction speech at the Hall of Fame goes as follows, "I have always said that George Kell has taken more from this great game of baseball than he can ever give back. And now I know, I am deeper in debt than ever before." He was born in Swifton, AR and played baseball at Arkansas State University (where I went!). Kell served ten years on the Arkansas State Highway Commission (1973–83) and owned a car dealership, George Kell Motors, in Newport, which I've driven by a thousand times. Kell died at age 86 in his sleep in his hometown of Swifton, Arkansas on March 24, 2009.

Also, the great dancer Gene Kelly (1912), the beautiful Barbara Eden (1934... oh how I loved this woman growing up! I Dream of Jeannie anyone?), Who drummer Keith Moon (1946), outstanding guitarist Gary Hoey (1960), NBA great Kobe Bryant (1978)and former lead singer for a band I loved in the 80s, Survivor, Jimi Jamison (1951). That's a pretty good crew to share a birthday with if you do! But I've saved the greatest for last.

Richard Lewis Springthorpe was born on the 23rd of August, 1949. You might know him better as Rick Springfield. The Australian hearthrob wasn't only a soap opera star (Dr. Noah Drake thankyouverymuch) but a rocker as well... and he's still going. A new feature documentary titled "An Affair of the Heart: The Journey of Rick Springfield and his Devoted Fans" was filmed in 2010 and will be premiering in Malibu on September 26, 2011. The film is about the 30-year connection Rick shares with his ardently loyal fans and the inspiration/power of music in our lives. He was hilarious on Showtime's Californication show recently and he had a guest spot on Hawaii Five-0. But this is as good as it gets right here...

New Alice Cooper Video!

Welcome 2 My Nightmare, the latest CD from legendary rocker (and golfer) Alice Cooper is due out September 13, 2011. Here's the first video from the CD for the sweetly titled track "I'll Bite Your Face Off". Oh Alice, you say the sweetest things.

The idea for the album came about soon after the thirtieth anniversary of the original classic Welcome to My Nightmare album, while Cooper was talking with producer Bob Ezrin, who proposed the idea of a sequel to Welcome to My Nightmare.

Movie Review: Limitless

Synopsis: A writer (Bradley Cooper) takes an experimental drug, NZT-48, that allows him to use 100 percent of his mind. As he takes Wall Street by storm, his accomplishments bring him to the attention of people willing to do anything to get their hands on his stash of NZT-48.

A pretty fun movie overall, it doesn't exactly get deep with the moral implications of super intelligence like it possibly should have, but that might have weighed it down a bit. Nor are the characters particularly well developed or deep. But it is very engaging and intriguing from beginning to end and is actually quite original, especially in this era of sequels and remakes, which is quite refreshing.

Bradley Cooper is very good in the lead role I thought, and the scenes where he and Robert DeNiro share time are fantastic.

There's a good bit of adrenalized action as well as it plays like an action-thriller once the set-up is established. There's a nice style to it and the pace is quick enough to keep the action junkies happy. If you think too long on many of the plot points it'll leave a lot of loose ends, so I just sort of had to disconnect my brain to get the maximum enjoyment from it and not overthink things. It's just a fun, smarth, fresh film if you do. Definitely worth a watch.

For the record, it's based on the 2001 novel The Dark Fields by Alan Glynn.

American Horror Story Looks Very Cool

It like we went a long time without any good horror stuff on TV, then along came great shows like Masters of Horror, Dexter, The Walking Dead and Supernatural plus lots of other fun stuff... from Kingdom Hospital to True Blood. Now I'm seeing a whole lot of really interesting tidbits from FX's upcoming "American Horror Story", and I really like the looks of it. It seems like it's going to be high quality and pretty creepy. Check out this new poster at the right and a little 30 second promo trailer at the end of this post. Here's their Facebook page as well with lots of goodies posted regularly.

The show revolves around The Harmons, a family of three who move from Boston to Los Angeles as a means to reconcile past anguish.

The fantastic cast features Dylan McDermott (The Practice) as “Ben Harmon,” a psychiatrist; Connie Britton (Friday Night Lights) as Ben’s wife; Taissa Farmiga as the Harmons’ teenage daughter; Jessica Lange (Tootsie, Cape Fear, Big Fish) in her first-ever regular series TV role as the Harmons’ neighbor; Evan Peters (One Tree Hill) plays one of Ben’s patients; and Denis O’Hare (The Good Wife) as “Larry Harvey.”

"American Horror Story" is set to premiere in time for Halloween on October 5th on FX and will run Wednesdays at 10 PM ET/PT.

Harlequin Romance, Version 2011

She writes:

He grasped me firmly, but gently, just above my elbow and guided me into a room, his room. Then he quietly shut the door and we were alone.

He approached me soundlessly, from behind, and spoke in a low, reassuring voice close to my ear.

"Just relax." Without warning, he reached down and I felt his strong, calloused hands start at my ankles, gently probing, and moving upward along my calves, slowly but steadily. My breath caught in my throat.

I knew I should be afraid, but somehow I didn't care. His touch was so experienced, so sure.

When his hands moved up onto my thighs, I gave a slight shudder, and partly closed my eyes. My pulse was pounding. I felt his knowing fingers caress my abdomen, my ribcage. And then, as he cupped my firm, full breasts in his hands, I inhaled sharply.

Probing, searching, knowing what he wanted, he brought his hands to my shoulders, slid them down my tingling spine and into my panties.

Although I knew nothing about this man, I felt oddly trusting and expectant.

This is a man, I thought. A man used to taking charge. A man not used to taking 'No' for an answer. A man who would tell me what he wanted. A man who would look into my soul and say...

"Okay ma'am, you can board your flight now."

New Underworld Movie Trailer

Yes, they're still making the Underworld movies. And why wouldn't they keep making them? They're not big blockbusters or anything but they've all made good money still and obviously have a decent fan base.

* Underworld - $52 mil (2003)

* Underworld: Evolution - $62.3 mil (2006)

* Underworld: Rise of the Lycans - $45.8 mil (2009)

Not showstopping numbers at the US box office by any means, but none of these films have cost a fortune either so they're all making money... then add DVD sales and overseas numbers (all pretty much double the US totals) and it's a decent little series for Screen Gems.

I personally like the series and will have to break out the DVD trilogy now and refresh my memory about where the story is at, what's gone before, and how good Kate Beckinsale looks in tight pants.

So anyway, here's the trailer for the 4th and latest entry, Underworld: Awakening, due out Jan 20th, 2012. Of course, it just has to be in 3D too right? Doesn't everything?!?! *sigh*

Starring: Kate Beckinsale, Michael Ealy, India Eisley

Synopsis: Selene escapes imprisonment to find herself in a world where humans have discovered the existence of both Vampire and Lycan clans, and are conducting an all-out war to eradicate both immortal species.

Elvis Is Girl Happy

Of course I'm still in the midst of my own Elvis week. Last night we watched Girl Happy, which is an enjoyable yet ridulously silly film from 1965. It's on of his "beach films" and it takes place in Ft. Lauderdale during spring break (sort of... you can tell nothing was really on location). The dance numbers are quite comical and there are really only a couple of memorable songs... the title track, "The Meanest Girl In Town" (also done by Bill Haley & His Comets called "She's Evil") and "You'll Be Gone". Unfortunately there's also some real forgetable stuff here as well, like "Do The Clam" (seriously), "Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce" and "Wolf Call". And I hate to spoil the ending for you, but after a big misunderstanding... Elvis gets the girl! Who knew! But hey, at least watch it so you too can learn how to do the clam. All the kids are doing it.

So to keep the week going, how about you just enjoy Elvis Presley performing "Steamroller Blues" from his legendary Aloha from Hawaii concert. For more Elvis videos visit Elvis.com.

Movie Review: Stake Land

Synopsis: Martin was a normal teenage boy before the country collapsed in an empty pit of economic and political disaster. A vampire epidemic has swept across what is left of the nation's abandoned towns and cities, and it's up to Mister, a death dealing, rogue vampire hunter, to get Martin safely north to Canada, the continent's New Eden.

I'll start by saying I'm just not a big vampire movie fan. Sure I watch True Blood and have read several vampire novels but I think the whole genre has been really watered-down and is just overdone (thanks a lot Twlight!). Sparkles? Seriously? But this low-budget direct-to-video indy release is a nice surprise.

Instead of being all lustful and horny, these vampires are just hungry for blood. The portrayal of them reminded me of the vamps in 30 Days Of Night, they're just savage blood-suckers. This makes it pretty brutal at times and not for the faint of heart. If you want to see your vampire fawning over some girl at her high school locker, look elsewhere. This movie is violent, dark and mean. There's a whole lot of gore and the red stuff flows freely and often.

But, having said that, this movie is also really focuses on characters and does a nice job of building them. They're flawed yet strong, believable and sympathetic. There's an underlying theme of religious right working as well, which also helps give the film more of a feeling of depth.

The acting is very nice, with Nick Damici in particular kicking butt in one of the main roles (Mister). His young sidekick, played by Connor Paolo, is solid as is Kelly McGillis, far removed from her Top Gun days. And you know I love anything with my personal favorite scream queen, Danielle Harris, in it.

Sure the film's a bit dirivitive. Think Zombieland (replace the zombies with fangers... and no comedy) meets Daybreakers with a bit of Carriers thrown in. Nothing new here, it's just the way it's handled. The direction is fantastic, the story is gripping and the characters are great. Add the fantastic and scary vampires in the mix and you get what I'll consider a new vampire classic in my library. This will sit proudly on my DVD shelf alongside After Dark, 30 Days of Night, The Lost Boys, Blade and the original Fright Night.

Book Review: The Black Train

The Black Train

by Edward Lee

Synopsis (from the publisher): WELCOME TO THE GAST HOUSE - A historical bed and breakfast or a monument to the obscene? Collier doesn't need to know the building's rich history: women raped to death for sport, slaves beheaded and threshed into the soil, and pregnant teenagers buried alive. Who or what could mitigate such horrors over 150 years ago? And what is the atrocious connection between the old railroad and the house? Each room hides a new, revolting secret. At night, he can smell the mansion's odors and hear its appalling whispers. Little girls giggle where there are no little girls, and out back, when Collier listens closely, he can hear the train's whistle and see the things chained up in its clattering prison cars. Little does he know, the mansion and the railroad aren't haunted by ghosts but an unspeakable carnality and a horror as palpable as excited human flesh. WELCOME TO A PLACE WORSE THAN HELL...

Civil War horror? I guess that's where you'd put this. I like Edward Lee so I checked this one out. In typical Lee fashion, it's pretty macabre, brutal and full of gore and sex. Also in typical Lee fashion he does a nice job of character building, and a couple of "heroes" of the book are very likable and interesting (especially for me since both are beer connoisseurs... one writes books on beer while the other is a brewer). I can relate.

The flashbacks are full of savagery and brutality for sure. Some of the scenes described will probably haunt you for a bit, so be warned. The book does a nice job of building suspense throughout as things unfold, but I have to say I was disappointed in the end really. I expected all hell to break loose, so to speak, and a crazy finish. Really, it's pretty tame compared to the set-up and a bit of a letdown to me. This left me feeling a little disappointed in it.

A good, dark "Civil War horror" novel, definitely worth a read, but I'm going to stop short of praising it like other Edward Lee titles I've read. Not bad, but not his best.

Warden Threw A Party In The County Jail

R.I.P. Elvis Aaron Presley (January 8, 1935 – August 16, 1977)... as usual I'm watching plenty of Elvis movies and listening to tunes. I've watched Change of Habit and Loving You so far, kicking in some Spinout later. We also visited famous Studio B just last week while in Nashville and sat at the same piano The King played on. Get in the mood! Watch this classic (and still one of my favorite Elvis songs) below:

Sebastian Bach is Kicking and Screaming

Sebastian Bach's new CD is called Kicking and Screaming and will be released on September 27th. This is the first single called, you guessed it, "Kicking and Screaming". If this song is a good indicator of how the CD is going to be I'd say it will be excellent, and that's not a big surprise as his 2007 release, Angel Down, was one of my favorite CDs released that year.

That's Nick Sterling on guitar and Bobby Jarzombek (Halford) on drums.

Poor Tom's Scrotum

The pastor asked if anyone in the congregation would like to express praise for answered prayers. Suzie Smith stood and walked to the podium.

She said, "I have a praise. Two months ago, my husband, Tom, had a terrible bicycle wreck and his scrotum was completely crushed. The pain was excruciating and the doctors didn't know if they could help him."

You could hear a muffled gasp from the men in the congregation as they imagine the pain that poor Tom must have experienced.

"Tom was unable to hold me or the children," she went on, "and every move caused him terrible pain." We prayed as the doctors performed a delicate operation, and it turned out they were able to piece together the crushed remnants of Tom ' s scrotum, and wrap wire around it to hold it in place."

Again, the men in the congregation cringed and squirmed uncomfortably as they imagined the horrible surgery performed on Tom.

"Now," she announced in a quivering voice, "thank the Lord, Tom is out of the hospital and the doctors say that with time, his scrotum should recover completely."

All the men sighed with unified relief.

The pastor rose and tentatively asked if anyone else had something to say. A man stood up and walked slowly to the podium.

He said, "I'm Tom Smith."

The entire congregation held its breath.

"I just want to tell my wife the word is sternum."

Long Live Dimebag

When the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival stopped in Dallas this Summer, it was the perfect place for all of the bands on the tour to come out on stage with Disturbed and play tribute to the legend of Dimebag Darrell by singing Pantera's "Walk" near the end of the show. Rock this.
