R.E.M. I Hardly Knew Ye

When Rock and Roll Hall of Famers R.E.M. "officially disbanded" a few weeks ago I didn't give it much thought I guess. Through the years I liked a few of their radio friendly tracks but never saw them live and didn't pay too much attention to them, opting for a much heavier backbone usually. Also I'm just not big into bands that are overly political. I watch the news for that, I like my music to escort me to an escape.

But I was reading a good online article about their career last night though and as I did I put my iPod on "R.E.M. shuffle" and was a bit surprised by just how many of their tracks I actually had, and also how much I enjoyed listening to them.

Here's what's resides on the CrackerPod right now:

19 tracks?!?! I guess I covered most of their big hits like Everybody Hurts, The One I Love, Stand and Losing My Religion, songs which everybody knows, but I was surprised to see I'd accumulated tracks like Half a World Away, Me In Honey and Nightswimming. In retrospect, they put out quite a bit of quality music for the span of 6 or 7 years that I noticed. I sort of wish I'd have kept up with them as I'm sure some of their more recent stuff has more quality tunes in it. Perhaps I'll look into their later career now, although I've missed the bus I guess.

Andy Kaufman in a wrestling match... yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
