Movie Review: Knight and Day

Synopsis: June Havens (Cameron Diaz) finds her everyday life tangled with that of a secret agent (Tom Cruise) who has realized he isn't supposed to survive his latest mission. As their campaign to stay alive stretches across the globe, they soon learn that all they can count on is each other.

This movie is somewhat a cross between True Lies and some recent James Bond films. There's a whole lot of over-the-top action, which you really can't take too seriously and the good part is that the movie never really takes a serious tone anyway. It's actually a pretty fun film if you're not looking for realism.

I never really felt any good chemistry between Diaz and Cruise, but Cruise plays the type of role he's best at (Maverick/Charlie Babbitt/Cole Trickle) and Diaz is always entertaining in this sort of "ditzy" role.

Like I said, the action is often way over-the-top, but it's got some pretty fun sequences. Some of them drag on a bit long I felt, but the overall pace of the movie is still good. There are quite a bit of special effects and sometime I thought the CGI got in the way and stood out, but for the most part the stunt work and all the shootouts and chases are pretty thrilling. I loved the motorcycle chase during the running of the bulls, a scene I've heard a lot of people say they thought was stupid. I also enjoyed the globetrotting instead of the whole thing being in one location.

If you're looking for a deep, meaningful storyline or some characters with a lot of depth... look elsewhere. If you want an exciting and funny popcorn movie to entertain you this does just that.
