Movie Review: Tangled

Synopsis: The magically powered, long-haired Rapunzel has spent her entire life in a tower, but now that a runaway thief has stumbled upon her, she is about to discover the world for the first time, and who she really is.

A very nice take on the story of Rapunzel from Disney. It's very well told here, with a some great villains and a very likable hero with some entertaining scene-stealers like Maximus the horse and Pascal the chameleon. The music is very theatrical and really adds a lot to the film. Visually the film is just stunning, as expected, with some very dazzling and colorful sequences. There are a lot of good laughs as well for both kids and adults, but there's nothing in it that's not appropriate for kids.

I think what I liked best about it is that it never falls into that whole "trying to be too cute with pop culture references" bit that's so overdone lately. It stays true to just good storytelling. It's witty, fast-moving and has a lot of heart.

This reminded more of some of the old-fashioned singing, dancing Disney adventures and is probably their best non-Pixar film in quite some time.

8/10
