Synopsis: Whilst celebrating a graduation at a secluded vacation home, a group of college students find themselves targeted by a sadistic killer who forces them to play a deadly game of killing one another in order to survive. While it's really more a slasher movie, this does have sort of a Saw feel to it with the killer communicating via recorded messages and walkie-talkie and such. But the movie is nothing like the Saw series other than that. And I say killer like there's only one, but it turns out that really the killers are the students turning on one another. A lot of human psychology comes into play as to who is going to die next and who will turn on the others and so forth. It's all actually quite interesting character study.
It's a pretty cheaply done film that was picked up by After Dark Films for their Horrorfest and DVD releases but it doesn't really look like it. It's well shot, well acted and feels like a much bigger release. I thought the overall feel of it reminded me of many of the 90s slashers like I Know What You Did and Scream. There were no "big name" stars of course but most of the young actors have solid performances, like Patrick Flueger (The 4400), Taryn Manning (Sons of Anarchy) and Teddy Dunn (Veronica Mars). I felt like their character's reactions were pretty realistic and believable, like sometimes these movies aren't.
Obviously there's plenty of violence and blood, but nothing over-the-top really and it doesn't rely on that. Well, perhaps 1 scene with a shovel...
This isn't mind-blowing great or anything, but it's a smart little slasher film worth a watch. I loved the reveal at the end as well. Nice touch.
