The Book of Lovely Bones

I've got a 3-day weekend thanks to MLK Jr. Day and I don't know about where you are, but here in the south it's finally warmed up a bit. Should be a nice weekend with highs in the 50s and lows in the mid-30s. Now that I can handle. I'm trying to get the running going again and will be out and about this weekend for sure. I think I'll hit the farmer's market tomorrow morning for some fresh fruits and veggies, catch a movie, UALR hoops on Saturday night, beer tasting on Sunday and am going to Oaklawn, the best horse track in the country, on Monday. They're calling for highs in the 60s so it's perfect, especially for January. I'm reborn from my short hibernation from the cold.

2 new films hit the theaters this weekend, and 1 goes wide so that's a whopping total of 3 films to pick from! Of course, you could see Avatar again or last week's release Daybreakers or other stuff I guess. Here's the skinny:

The Spy Next Door

The Plot: Former CIA spy Bob Ho (Jackie Chan) takes on his toughest assignment to date: looking after his girlfriend's three kids, who haven't exactly warmed to their mom's beau. And when one of the youngsters accidentally downloads a top-secret formula, Bob's longtime nemesis, a Russian terrorist, pays a visit to the family.
My Thoughts: Yes, this looks like a movie that should star The Rock or some other similarly neutered former action star so Jackie will do just fine... and it's from the same guy who brought us Are We There Yet? so... yeah. Should suck. I like my Jackie Chan kickin' people's butts, not wiping them.

The Lovely Bones

The Plot: Young Susie Salmon watches over her family from "the in-between" as they deal with the aftermath of her brutal rape and murder.
My Thoughts: Well, critics are hammering this film (36% at RT after 111 reviews) but c'mon... it's directed by Peter Jackson and is based on a great book right? I mean it has to be somewhat good? Right?!? Maybe I'll wait on the DVD.

The Book of Eli

The Plot: In a post-apocalyptic United States, a lone man (Denzel Washington) fights his way across the country in order to protect a sacred book that holds the secrets to saving humankind.
My Thoughts: Mad Max is back... and he's black. Mila Kunis is in this, so it's definitely got that going for it. Also I love Denzel and about everything he does, plus this whole post-apocalyptic thing usually works for me. Sold. I'll see this. The trailer looks really cool.
