I've put this wrestling documentary on my "must see" list for sure. You see I grew up in the Memphis area, about 2 hours away, and we got the Memphis studio wrestling program every Saturday morning and my friends and I watched it religiously. We lived for this stuff in the late 70s and early 80s. Jerry "The King" Lawler, Tommy "Wildfire" Rich, Bill "Superstar" Dundee, "Handsome" Jimmy Valiant, Austin Idol, The Fabulous Ones, Jackie Fargo, "Dirty" Dutch Mandell, Jimmy "Mouth of the South" Hart, The Moondogs... the list could go on of guys who we thought were super human. I didn't miss an episode that Dave Brown and Lance "Banana Nose" Russell hosted. So yes, when I heard about this documentary I was excited to relive some of those memories. Unfortunately it's only been showing in Memphis so far, but should go regional soon as it's doing very well I've read.

Released March 24, 2011, Memphis Heat tells the wild and woolly history of professional wrestling in Memphis and the southern U.S. From the carnival days of cult hero Sputnik Monroe--the heel who integrated the Memphis wrestling audience before the civil rights movement--to masked men, midgets, tag teams, female wrestlers, and the rise of Jerry "the King" Lawler, Memphis Heat delves into a time-forgotten, pre-cable tv world where almost anything happened in and out of the wrestling ring and no holds were barred! Do not miss this! It is the most important film of our lifetime!
