Movie Review: Whiteout

Synopsis: U.S. Marshal Carrie Stetko (Kate Beckinsale) is the only law enforcement as she tracks a killer in Antarctica, their first homicide, just as the sun is about to set for six months.

I love Kate Beckinsale and she strips down and gets in the shower in the first 5 minutes. No they don't show her nude but there is some sexiness going on and my hopes for the movie were really high (despite how tacky and meaningless this scene actually is). Sadly, that was the best part of this predictable "thriller".

From there it basically turns into an episode of CSI: Antarctica. It's all really predictable and the big twist at the end is so poorly executed that any fan of CSI or other such shows will figure it out about 20 minutes in.

There's some action sequences, a lot of snow and wind, some ice pick swinging, a few dead bodies... and not much else. The whole thing is pretty hollow. There's even some flashbacks about why our hero has decided to move to this barren location from her previous high crime Miami job, and believe it or not those flashbacks are just as predictable and derivative as the rest of the film.

I think they should have done more with the desolation of the location, as it's a bleak, unforgiving place. They didn't use this nearly as well as they could have I think. It's just sort of a setting for the story... not THE story. A shame really since it's so unique.

The scenery does look good as it's a beautiful and interesting place, Kate looks great, the pace is fairly quick and it's all very watchable... it's just also very easily forgettable.
