Movie Review: Triangle

Synopsis: The story revolves around the passengers of a yachting trip in the Atlantic Ocean who, when struck by mysterious weather conditions, have their boat flipped. A large ship happens by and they jump to it, only to experience greater havoc aboard.

This is one of those films much like Memento where it's difficult to discuss or even review it really without giving too much away. There are twists-a-plenty and it's often very confusing, but in the end it comes together fairly nicely and makes itself one of those films that's fun to immediately go back and watch again to pick up things (which I did).

It's far from a standard horror film in that it doesn't rely on gore or shocks to get it's story told, but more on tension and psychological creepiness. It presents sort of a mind-bending puzzle to the viewer and becomes a deja-vu circle that's sort of fun to try to solve as it unfolds. A gripe on it would perhaps be that in the end it may think it's a little smarter than it actually is and with any complex movie of this type, there are some plot holes when you hold it under the light and examine it with a fine-toothed comb. But it's fun nonetheless.

The only performance I think worth mentioning is that of Melissa George (30 Days of Night, The Amityville Horror) who is fantastic in a pretty haunting central role as the tormented mother trying to survive to get home and see her autistic son.

So if you like this sort of Twilight Zone episode, that's pretty much what you get here just over 1 1/2 hours. It's well worth checking out. Don't watch the trailer beforehand though, it reveals too much. Just a warning if you want the maximum experience.
