Movie Review: Due Date

Synopsis: High-strung father-to-be Peter Highman (Robert Downey Jr.) is forced to hitch a ride with aspiring actor Ethan Tremblay (Zach Galifianakis) on a road trip in order to make it to his child's birth on time.

In short, this is basically a remake of Planes, Trains and Automobiles. Replace the late John Candy with Zach Galifianakis and replace Steve Martin with Robert Downey Jr., then instead of trying to get home for the holidays Downey is trying to get home for the birth of his child. I don't necessarily mean this in a negative way, but also it's nowhere as near as good as the classic buddy film.

I did find many parts funny and think Downey and Galifianakis have a nice chemistry and Zach just makes me laugh doing about anything. It's also a bit darker than P,T & A as the duo breaks quite a few laws along the way, runs from officials, smokes a bit of ganja and Downey's character even punches a 10-year-old in the gut (and spits in a dog's face). Funny? Sure! Offensive to some? I'm sure. What isn't anymore?

Overall, an average, quirky road comedy. Worth watching for a few laughs by the solid leads.
