I can't say I'm sorry to see February go. In fact, screw you February. Let's get to March. I've got plenty of good road trips planned this month as the weather makes me tolerable for a Winter wuss like me to start getting out again, starting with Memphis this coming weekend.
It warmed up here this weekend and I logged 12 miles with runs of 4 miles on Friday after work, 3 miles Saturday and 5 miles yesterday. I had been only averaging about 3-6 miles per week in the last few months as old man Winter wouldn't shut his blowhole, so needless to say I'm pretty sore. It's a good sore though and I'm needing to drop about 15 lbs (at least) to get ready for the swimsuit season as the pool parties and the lake trips kick in.
Yesterday I watched the only Olympic event I even remotely care about as the hockey finals between USA and Canada was on. It was a heart-breaking ending but a helluva game. A silver medal sucks right now but when you consider USA was ranked 6th coming into the Olympic games I'm sure when it all settles in they'll be proud of what they accomplished. That Canadian team was loaded with NHL All-Stars. As for the rest of the Olympics? I just can't generate any caring at all. Timed events, judged events, measured events... bleh. Oh look, they're going downhill in a sled! I like events where there is a score kept, and I much prefer team games. It doesn't help that I also hate cold weather and in almost every event the competitors are dressed like idiots. I actually watched more of the NFL Scouting Combine than the Winter Olympics. Oh well, to each his own. Somebody's watching, the ratings are pretty big.
To get me in my St. Pat's mood already, I broke out my Blu-Ray of The Boondock Saints over the weekend. Every time I watch that I get fired up and this was the first time I'd seen it on Blu-Ray. For the record, I've already made plans for my St. Patty's Day and it's to see Nonpoint and Cold at Juanitas, so it is so on. But anyway, I leave you with one of the greatest speeches ever on film from the Saints at the end the movie...
We do not ask for your poor, or your hungry.
We do not want your tired and sick.
It is your corrupt we claim.
It is your evil that will be sought by us.
With every breath we shall hunt them down.
Each day, we will spill their blood till it rains down from the skies.
Do not kill, do not rape, do not steal, these are principles which every man of every faith can embrace.
These are not polite suggestions, these are codes of behavior and those of you that ignore them will pay the dearest cost.
There are varying degrees of evil, we urge you lesser forms of filth not to push the bounds and cross over, into true corruption, into our domain.
For if you do, one day you will look behind you and you will see we three. And on that day, you will reap it.
And we will send you to whatever god you wish.
