Get Marmaduke To The Greek

Yes, I broke my theaterless string this past week but I really was going to try to get out for another movie to do some catching up, but alas I've been swamped all week and didn't do it. I stayed out for a prolonged happy hour on Wednesday night, then saw Saliva, Iron Tongue and Afternoon Delight at Rev Room last night so I'm working in little sleep over a 2 day period cruising into the weekend. It was worth it though as the concert last night was great. All 3 bands brought a little something different and it was a packed house hot for some live music. Between Edgefest, Riverfest and all the club shows I've seen recently, the last month has been very rocking for me.

But 4 new big movies hit the theaters today trying to bump Shrek Forever After from the top slot. Let's have our usual looksee...

Marmaduke

The Plot: The Winslow family moves to a new neighborhood with their large yet lovable Great Dane (voiced by Owen Wilson), who has a tendency to wreak havoc in his own oblivious way.
My Thoughts: Looks pretty cute for the kids I bet. I remember doubting this same studio when they put out Alvin and the Chipmunks and that has done really well, so it wouldn't shock me if this packs in the kiddos.

Killers

The Plot: Three years into their perfectly suburban marriage, Jen (Katherine Heigl) learns that her husband Spencer (Ashton Kutcher) is not only an undercover assassin -- he's also a target worth millions of dollars to a clutch of fellow assassins who have been trailing the couple in secret since they met.
My Thoughts: Just thinking about Heigl being married to Ashton Kutcher makes me throw up in my mouth a little bit. I liked this better when it was called Mr. And Mrs. Smith. Pass.

Get Him to the Greek

The Plot: A record company intern (Jonah Hill) is hired to accompany out-of-control British rock star Aldous Snow (Russell Brand) to a concert at L.A.'s Greek Theater.
My Thoughts: I like the casting and some of the early reviews are saying this is hilarious, but I can't help but think it's just another in a long line of raunchy comedies that have their moments, but then are instantly forgotten. Renter.

Splice

The Plot: Two scientists fuse DNA samples to create a new organism: a human-chimera they name Dren. As the creature rapidly develops from a deformed female infant into winged creature, her initial bond with her creators turns deadly.
My Thoughts: I like Adrien Brody and all the previews and stills I've seen from this have me excited and intrigued. It looks equal parts horror and fantasy. This is my pick of the week if I get out.
