Bye Bye January

It's hard to believe that January has come and gone so quickly. Easily my least favorite month because work usually sucks and I hate cold weather. It's also the only month of the year when I don't try to get out of town for a weekend, although we did take a quick 1-day trip up to northwest Arkansas. I've got trips to Memphis, New Orleans and yet another Las Vegas trip coming up this Spring so I'm ready to get past the crappy weather. Hopefully I'm going to work in an Atlanta trip as well and plan on doing at least a couple of Hot Springs runs. That should hold me over until the boat launches and takes up weekend time.

It was a good weekend to catch-up on some home time around here as we had a Winter storm blow through and shut everything down for a bit. I had to make it through it for work, but got home Friday afternoon and only left the house a couple of times since. Lots of couch time as video games, movies, TV and reading filled the hours. A nice escape really. The hot tub is always nice in really cold weather so that became a great place to drink a few beers, and I did just that.

I popped in some real classics for some reason, guess I was just in the mood for good movies instead of a lot of the crap I often watch. A few thoughts:

* Psycho ~ This is still one of my all-time favorite horror movies. Hitchcock is known as the master of suspense for a reason and this flick is just loaded with tension, as well as classic scenes. Anthony Perkins is awesome but I always love watching Janet Leigh, one of the hottest women in history and this is her at her peak.

* Jailhouse Rock - I love Elvis movies and I think this is probably his 3rd best movie, after King Creole and Love Me Tender. Actually, those may be his only 3 good movies. The scene of him singing "Jailhouse Rock" for the TV show is one of the more iconic scenes in movie history. This was Elvis at his peak.

* Jaws - Yet another of my all-time favorite horror films. I remember being scared of all water for a while after seeing this originally back in the day, and it's still a powerful and freaky movie. I think about it every time I go to the beach. Hell I think about it at the lake sometimes. Richard Shaw is awesome in this.

* King Kong - The 2005 Peter Jackson version that is. This takes a lot of flack from some people for some reason or another... too slow etc. But personally I love it. 3 hours is a long time to keep someone's attention for sure, but I never even glance at the clock while this is going on. I hated Jack Black when chosen for this role, but think it worked out really well.

* Definitely, Maybe - I decided to take a break from the classics and this was just starting so I watched the whole thing. I'd skipped it because it's obviously a total chick flick, but damned if this didn't have me cheering by the end. Ryan Reynolds is great, Abigail Breslen is adorable and Rachel Weisz and Elizabeth Banks are quite easy on the eyes.
