aka Trolljegeren (Norway)
Synopsis: A group of Norwegian students investigate a series of mysterious bear killings, but learn that there are much more dangerous things going on in the hills. They start to follow a mysterious hunter, only to learn that he is actually a troll hunter.
Think of this one as The Blair Witch Project meets Godzilla (with subtitles). Well, sort of. There are plenty more trolls than just the giant one at the end, but he's the big payoff and it's worth the wait. There's a slow set-up to build some suspense for the first half hour or so but then once you finally see a troll, the last hour is a wild ride full of action and excitement as the group chases trolls, runs from trolls and pokes around a creepy old mine.
The film is very well made with excellent effects as the trolls are very nicely done and look great. It also delves deep into the whole troll mythology, which is pretty cool and fun... teetering on silly but really just sort of tongue-in-cheek comedy. The acting is solid with some very good performances. Perhaps my favorite part of it all though is the stunning Norwegian scenery. The locations are just awesome. There's not really a lot of gore to speak of if that's what you're looking for.
If you're a fan of good old-fashioned monster movies like I am, you'll probably love this one too. It's a monster movie done with the whole "found footage" style but with the excellent twist of trolls. Well done Norway!
