Synopsis: During the Civil War era, the U.S. military makes a scarred bounty hunter (Josh Brolin) with warrants on his own head an offer he cannot refuse: in exchange for his freedom, he must stop a terrorist who is ready to unleash Hell on Earth.
It's hard to find too much to like about this comic book adaption, but I'll start with how excellent the score is. It's a dark, moody, heavy instrumental tone done by rockers Mastodon and it's very cool. Other than that? Well Megan Fox is hot, which is good because her acting is soap opera level, Josh Brolin plays Jonah Hex well really as he's a bit tongue-in-cheek and not too heavy with it the character. The effects are good and some of the fight scenes are OK and fun.
That's about it for me on the like side. The plot is the real villain here as it just blows I thought. The best word to describe it is "unfocused" I guess. It's just all over the place. It's short, at 81 minutes, but really they could have beefed it up another 20 minutes and clarified what the hell was going on and fleshed out some characters and plot to suit me.
Still though, there's some fun scenes that just sort of remind how much potential was here but are entertaining as they are. A great train robbery, some fun supernatural occult gun-slinging action and a pretty dark mood make it score at least some points on my fun gauge. Any time at all spent on the plot might have resulted in a much more decent film, sadly.
