Escape The Fate Have Issues

Here's the new video for a great song, Issues, from Las Vegas metalcore rockers Escape The Fate. Their self-titled third studio album is set for release November 2nd, 2010. Motley Crue's Mick Mars co-wrote one song on it and John 5 of Rob Zombie co-wrote on another.

Yes, There's a 3rd Lost Boys Movie

Your prayers have been answered I guess. Well, assuming you were praying for them to continue to run the Lost Boys series into the ground. But ah what the hell, I actually enjoyed the last Lost Boys movie, Lost Boys: The Tribe. I mean it wasn't awesome or anything but it was sort of fun at points. So here they go again now, with Lost Boys: The Thirst coming straight-to-DVD (duh) on Oct 5th. Corey Feldman and Jamison Newlander are back as the Frog brothers and hottie Tanit Phoenix stars as well, so I'll be checking it out I'm sure. Perhaps I'll revisit the whole triology, as The Lost Boys from way back in 1987 is still one of my favorite vampire movies ever. Here's more on the 3rd.

From Warner Brothers:

"A bloodsucking fiend is ready to party down vampire style and take over the world. All he has to do is slip ravers a new designer drug that will turn them into a rave-on army of global-dominating vein-drainers. But not if vampire hunter Edgar (Corey Feldman) has anything to say -- and do! -- about it. Joined by a cute comics clerk and a muscle-bound (especially between the ears) reality TV star, Edgar and brother Alan (Jamison Newlander) man up for a new hellaciously hemo-splattering showdown. It's the third Lost Boys movie. Quench The Thirst!"

Movie Review: Prince of Persia

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time

Synopsis: A young fugitive prince (Jake Gyllenhaal) and princess (Gemma Arterton) must stop a villain who unknowingly threatens to destroy the world with a special dagger that enables the magic sand inside to reverse time.

This is pretty much just another in a series of movies to be adapted from a video game and also another trying to be the next Pirates of the Carribbean franchise. Replace Johnny Depp with Jake and replace Kiera Knightly with Gemma and put a lot of sword fighting and over-the-top actions sequences and adventure and presto... Prince of Persia.

But you know what? I don't mean any of that in a bad way. I love this sort of crap. It's a lot better than most video game adaptations, it's entertaining and it's just damn fun. No substance of course, but good stunts and action and some laughs make for a fun film for my entertainment dollar. At times I thought it was sort of a throwback to the classic adventures of Sinbad I used to watch as a lad. Of course, the special effects are a lot more current and flashy and the action sequences are more wild.

I never got the feeling it was trying to be anything too deep either. The film promised to be dumb, knew it was dumb and delivered with big dumb fun. Where do I sign up for the sequel?

Hit Me

So sometime today or tomorrow it looks like the ole trusty blog will pass 100,000 hits. It took 3 years but I guess a couple of hundred hits a day sort of adds up. Anywho though, thanks for reading or stopping by or whatever and I'll toast a beer in your name. Yes, you. Give yourself a hug too.

I've got a book to review and several movie reviews in the ole noggin' waiting on me to vomit them out. And vomit I shall. And prepare for the annual Halloween onslaught of posts starting this weekend!

But today... new releases. Here's the goods:

UFC 119 Tonight

Man, after skipping a couple of cards lately I suddenly find myself very excited and very interested in tonight's UFC PPV, UFC 119: Mir vs. Cro Cop. My thoughts are that there is really no "main event" status fight on the card, but there are a lot of fights that belong at the top of the card. Does that make sense? Let's say I see a lot of potentially good fights with implications on titles but there's not a clear cut huge fight here. Check out the card:

MAIN CARD (Pay-per-view)

• Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic vs. Frank Mir
• Ryan Bader vs. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira
• Chris Lytle vs. Matt Serra
• Evan Dunham vs. Sean Sherk
• Melvin Guillard vs. Jeremy Stephens

PRELIMINARY CARD (Spike TV)

• C.B. Dollaway vs. Joe Doerksen
• Joey Beltran vs. Matt Mitrione

Some of my favorite fighters on there too, like Nogueira, Cro Cop and Sean Sherk and some possible future regulars like Ryan Bader, C.B. Dollaway and Matt Mitrione. Decent card... I'll be watching. Here's the usual assortment of videos:

Here's the excellent new video and song from LA's In This Moment. The track is "The Promise" and it's off their "A Star Crossed Wasteland" which you should probably go buy. Really. Very cool band.

Oh Lordi, Lordi... They're Back

Yep, just in time for Halloween, Finnish hard rockers Lordi have a new CD out called "Babez For Breakfast". No, seriously, that's what it's called. If you don't know who Lordi is, imagine if Alice Cooper and Gwar had a baby, and KISS raised it. It's campy, it's tongue-in-cheek, it's over-the-top, it's horror and sometimes it's actually catchy as all hell... it's Lordi.

The first video is "This Is Heavy Metal" and here it is in all it's awesome glory:

Black Country Communion

I mentioned in this morning's blog that Black Country Communion had a new CD out today, their debut, but it's not the first by this group of artists by a long shot. The band features Glenn Hughes (Deep Purple, Black Sabbath), Jason Bonham (Foreigner), Derek Sherinian (Dream Theater) and Joe Bonamassa (a blues guitar monster). All 4 have had extensive, successful careers on their own and now they have this "super group" of sorts, with rumors that they're already working on a 2nd CD so I'd say they're committed to it.

The new CD is called "Black Country" and Hughes has described the album as "a traditional classic rock record with a modern twist". Check out some videos below:

Bloody, Sandy Tuesday

It's no secret that one of my favorite new shows the last few years has been Spartacus: Blood and Sand on Starz. Loads of style, violence, sex and nudity... I mean what more could you ask for really? Today the first season is finally out on DVD and Blu-ray and it may end up being the only season with the news over the weekend that the star, Andy Whitfield, has had his cancer come back and filming for season 2 is postponed again. They'd already delayed once and even shot a prequel called Spartacus: Gods of the Arena to hold the fans over (airs in Jan 2011), but the report I read said he's seeking "immediate and agreesive treatment" so that doesn't sound good for him. Too bad as the guy was really just breaking out. Best wishes go his way for sure as he fights a real fight.

And with that, here's today's new haul:

* Spartacus: Blood and Sand Season 1 DVD (see video at the bottom)

* Methods of Mayhem ~ "A Public Disservice Announcement" CD (Motley Crue's Tommy Lee and co... see blog here)

* My Darkest Days ~ "My Darkest Days" CD (see blog here)

* Robin Hood DVD (Russell Crowe adventure)

* Opeth ~ "In Live Concert at the Royal Albert Hall" CD/DVD

* Serj Tankian ~ "Imperfect Harmonies" CD

* Black Country Communion - "Black Country" CD (supergroup featuring Glenn Hughes, Jason Bonham, Derek Sherinian, Joe Bonamassa)

Sully Says Sinner's Prayer

I liked the new Godsmack CD, "The Oracle", but I thought it was just missing something. It could have easily used a few more tracks in my opinion and a couple off of Sully Erna's new CD would have been perfect. This is one of those, "Sinner’s Prayer", that's on "Avalon" and it's just more proof to me that a lot of times when a band's lead-singer decides to pursue solo directions it takes away from the strength of the band. Great track and great video though.

The girl's name who is assisting on vocals is Lisa Guyer for the record.

Don't Break The Chain

Here's the poster, trailer, synopsis and official website for Chain Letter. This one keeps getting bumped back and it looks like it will finally get a limited release on Oct 1st, sadly for it that same day as Hatchet II and Let Me In in a jammed Halloween month. Looks like it might be sort of fun and the website, poster and trailer are well done. Bonus, sexy Nikki Reed stars.

Official Web Site

Synopsis: "Six friends receive a mysterious chain letter via text messaging and in their email accounts from a maniac who's hunting down teenagers who fail to forward his online chain letter. Who knew they should take the threats in the chain letter seriously? Or that chain letters using the teens' favorite technologies to track them can kill? This maniacal game pits friend against friend as they race to beat rules that seem impossible to escape. Break the chain, lose a life. Do you pass it on? Does friendship mean anything?"

New Old Soundgarden

One of the best bands to come out of the 90s, Soundgarden, will release a career spanning compilation CD called "Telephantasm" on Sept. 28th. This track, "Black Rain", is a previously unreleased track taken from the Badmotorfinger recording sessions. I wish these guys would hit the studio and make an entire CD of new songs, but I'll take what I can get. Here's the new video:

Best Tip Ever?

Here's Megan Fox’s new Armani underwear ad where she uknowingly (perhaps) give the greasy haired room service guy the best tip of his life.

Alpha, Omega and the Devil

I'm still not back in my regular theater going groove, but it's still hot here so that means I'm trying to use weekends for the boat on the lake. I hope to hit the water again this Saturday, then Sunday is of course FOOTBALL. So who knows, maybe I'll catch up soon when it cools off. There are a couple in theaters now I want to see, The Expendables and Resident Evil, and a couple of more that look decent join them this weekend. Read on:

Alpha and Omega

The Plot: After being relocated to Idaho by park rangers, a female and a male wolf face a dangerous trip across unfamiliar territory in their attempt to find their way home to Canada.
My Thoughts: The trailer looks OK, but Lionsgate doesn't normally do animated movies but I guess they wanted in on the cash dump a good one can deliever. I'm skeptical, but it looks like it might be an OK family flick.

Easy A

The Plot: As she studies The Scarlet Letter, high schooler Olive Penderghast (Stone) notices her parallels to the novel and begins to work the school's rumor mill to advance her social and financial standing.
My Thoughts: This is a high-school comedy, and since the advent of cell phones I refuse to go see this genre at the theater. So pass. It looks sort of cute too, so hello illegal downloads!

The Town

The Plot: Career thief Doug MacRay (Ben Affleck) considers deepening his relationship with Claire (Hall), a bank teller who was traumatized by a recent heist -- and who has no idea that Doug was behind the crime. Meanwhile, an investigator (Hamm), who is close to unmasking Doug's secret life, wrestles with his feelings for Claire.
My Thoughts: Ben Affleck in some sort of Boston drama? Say it ain't so! Looks a bit mushy. Might be worth a watch on DVD someday.

Devil

The Plot: A group of people trapped in a elevator realize that the devil is among them.
My Thoughts: M. Night Shyamalan's rep has really taken a hit with a bunch of crap and he wrote and producted this. But... the trailer looks like it might have potential. Of course, I've said that about all of his films I think. You got me again M. Night, well played. You better deliver one of these times dammit.

Shameful Metaphors

Here's Chevelle's music video for "Shameful Metaphors"from the band’s latest CD release, "Sci-Fi Crimes". It's a straight-up performance video.

Here Comes "The Fighter"

Directed by David Russell, "The Fighter" is a story about Dickie Eklund (Christian Bale) helping his brother, "Irish" Mickey Ward (Mark Wahlberg) train for a championship. Based on a true story of an underdog boxer, the film will take viewers through the ups and downs Mickey Ward has faced in his tough journey.

Rocky anyone? A real life Rocky? Hell yes. Plus Bale and Wahlberg are 2 of my favorite actors so this has loads of potential. Amy Adams is in it too. This isn't about some oldie either as Mickey last fought in 2003, finishing his career winning 38 (KO 27) and losing 13 (KO 1). He's best known for his trilogy of fights with the late Arturo Gatti, the final 3 fights of his career back in '02 and '03.

It's out Dec 10th and the official trailer made it's way online this week so here it is:

25 Years

Ah 1985... the 49ers beat the Dolphins in the Super Bowl, Pete Rose broke Ty Cobb's all-time hits record, my St Louis Cardinals were cheated out of a World Series win and the Lakers beat the Celtics for the NBA title. In the music world Tears For Fears were shouting, Foreigner wanted to know what love was and Madonna was getting into the groove. A little channel called VH1 launched and Elmo was introduced on Sesame Street. What was I doing? Well, I was beginning my hair metal obsession and trying to look cool in my Camaro.

Here's proof that I didn't achieve the latter:

Flash forward 25 years, remove some hair on top, add some on the chin, pack on some pounds, change vehicles and here's what's left:

Fun stuff! Then I was listening to Metallica and Ozzy, playing video games and going to concerts. Now I listen to Metallica and Ozzy, play better video games and go to concerts (with better seats). See how much things change?

Also of note, in 1985 actress Courteney Cox used the word "period" (in the physical sense) on U.S. television for the first time, in a commercial for Tampax brand tampons. Yes, some things change a lot.
